HTC to see intensifying competition for Android-powered handsets in 2H09

High Tech Computer (HTC) will see competition in the Android-powered handset segment intensify dramatically in the second half of 2009 as more makers venture into the market.

Media reports in France have revealed that Orange may launch at least six Android-powered handsets in the second half of the year, with suppliers including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Motorola and Sony Ericsson, in addition to HTC.

HTC may supply Orange with 2-3 Android handsets, making the company the top supplier of Android-powered handsets for Orange, said market sources in Taiwan.

On the other hand, Taiwan-based handset vendors Acer and Asustek Computer also plan to launch their own Android-powered models in the second half, with Acer's A1 Android handset expected to hit the market in September, the sources added.
