The announcement on March 26, 2009 of the new stylish Sony Ericsson T707 clamshell phone means that Sony Ericsson’s Project Capuchin technology is now available in 10 phone series, increasing the addressable market for applications with the UI presentation designed in Flash Lite™ and the data logic provided by Java™ ME.

The T707 is a HSDPA clamshell phone with interactive and eye-catching light effects, allowing the phone to be personalized, and gesture control for muting calls and alarms.

The phone lights up when a call is received using a new feature called pulsating notification which can be set with the end-user’s contacts to illuminate with animated light effects.

The T707’s feature list includes a 320x240 pixel 262K TFT QVGA display, 100MB internal memory, extendable external memory using Memory Stick Micro™ and 3.2 megapixel camera with 3.2x digital zoom. HSDPA network speeds enable picture & video blogging, mobile entertainment downloads from PlayNow™ and web browsing supporting HTML and RSS feeds.

Project Capuchin in 10 phone series

The announcement of the new T707 takes the number of Sony Ericsson phone series supporting Project Capuchin to 10, therefore expanding the addressable market for developers.

Sony Ericsson's Project Capuchin enables faster UI development and easier collaboration between graphical designers and code developers. This bridging technology is the base for exciting applications where the UI presentation is designed in Flash Lite and the data logic is provided by Java ME.

Using MXPs, Flash developers can build applications in Flash and extract functionality from Java ME using ActionScript, for example date, time, alarms or local connectivity such as Bluetooth™.

Mobile Services Architecture (MSA) in 28 phone series

The addition of the new T707 means that MSA full set can now be found in 28 Sony Ericsson phone series. All JP-8 phones are based on MIDP 2.1 and have the same core JSR set based on the Java umbrella standard MSA (JSR 248).

There are currently 28 JP-8 phone series and JP-8.3 represents a sub-group of nine phones with some additional functionality supported by the Content Handler API (JSR 211) and Mobile Sensor API (JSR 256). JP-8.4 is differentiated by including the Project Capuchin API.
