Samsung tested first chip DRAM, built on 40-nm technology

South Korean company Samsung Electronics announced the verification of the first chip DRAM, made on 40-nanometer process technology. The manufacturer expects that the transition to 40-nanometer technology will accelerate the timing of new products to market by about 50%, so that it will be all year. By the end of 2009, the company Samsung plans to use 40-nanometer technology and mass production of 2-Gigabit modules of DDR3.

Samsung notes that the 40-nanometer process will reduce the supply voltage compared to devices manufactured on 50-nanometer technology, and it is projected the company to reduce energy consumption by about 30% and increase productivity by about 60%.
