Taiwan market: LGE launches Arena KM900
LG Electronics (LGE) on April 15 launched its high-end LG Arena KM900 touchscreen handset in the Taiwan market, cashing in on the strong sales for touchscreen models in the local market. Worldwide orders for the Arena KM900 have reached two million units since the device was launched in March, claimed Myong Won Baek, chairman of LGE Taiwan.
The Arena KM900, which features LGE's 3D S-Class user interface, 7.2Mbps 3.5G HSDPA, WiFi and GPS, will be one of the major focuses of LGE in the Taiwan market in the second quarter, according to Finsen Chen, vice president of telecom business at LGE Taiwan.
LGE estimated that its handset sales volume in the Taiwan market grew 30% in the first quarter of 2009, and this likely boosted its market share to over 10% at the end of March compared to 9.3% in February, Chen said.
Following the launch of the Arena KM900, LGE will launch more touchscreen models in Taiwan for the rest of the year, eyeing to capture a 15% market share by year-end 2009, Chen added.
