Computex 2009: Huawei pushing sales of 3G modules
China-based Huawei Technologies is exhibiting its 3G modules at the ongoing Computex 2009 with an aim to boost sales in cooperation with Taiwan-based netbook makers.
Huawei pointed out that its 3G modules are able to support the major 3G standards, HSUPA/HSDPA, CDMA EV-DO and TD-SCDMA. In addition, the company has recently rolled out an HSDPA/Wi-Fi dual-mode module.
Since telecom service providers worldwide are pushing their 3G services bundled with netbooks, Huawei plans to team up with Taiwan-based netbook makers to jointly tap the telecom segment, noted the company.
For example, 80% of 13 CDMA EV-DO-enabled netbooks marketed recently by China Telecom are equipped with a Huawei 3G module, noted the company, adding that the 13 netbooks are from branded vendors, including Acer, Asustek Computer, BenQ, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Lenovo.
Huawei currently outsources production of its 3G modules to members of the Foxconn Group, according to market sources.
