MediaTek gearing up new WCDMA and DSC chips
MediaTek is expected to introduce a lineup of new chip solutions for WCDMA handsets and digital still cameras (DSCs) soon, with volume production slated for the latter half of 2009, according to industry sources.
MediaTek is also expected to expand its shipments of GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, TD-SCDMA and Blu-ray player chips, said the sources.
The company believes third-quarter revenues will continue to grow from its second-quarter guidance of NT$25.3-27.4 billion (US$769-833 million) due to seasonality. WCDMA chips will be MediaTek's major growth driver in the second half of 2009, the sources added.
MediaTek's revenues are expected to remain flat in July, reach NT$9 billion in August, and peak for the year in September, according to sources at the company.
