VPEC cuts into Apple supply chain
Visual Photonics Epitaxy (VPEC) will benefit from the popularity of Apple's iPhone 3GS as it is a major GaAs wafer supplier for TriQuint Semiconductor, which supplies WCDMA power amplifiers (PAs) for the new Apple device, according to industry sources.
More than half of TriQuint's GaAs wafers are provided by VPEC, the sources noted.
VPEC saw better-than-expected revenues of NT$142 million (US$4.32 million) in May thanks to increased orders from TriQuent, the sources said, estimating that VPEC's June revenues will reach NT$150-160 million amid shipments for smartphone, ultra-thin notebook and netbook products.
