NAACP Near Fund-Raising Goal with AT&T Campaign Leadership
$3.3 Million in Gifts and Multi-Year Commitments Received So Far in NAACP's Centennial Corporate Campaign Led by AT&T Chairman, CEO and President Randall Stephenson.
AT&T* and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) today announced that gifts and multi-year commitments for the NAACP Centennial Corporate Campaign have reached $3.3 million. With a year remaining in the historic campaign, which is being led by AT&T Chairman, CEO and President Randall Stephenson, the NAACP is nearing its $5 million fund-raising goal.
The campaign kicked off in February to coincide with the NAACP’s celebration of 100 years as an advocate for equality and social justice in the United States. To start the drive, AT&T contributed an initial leadership gift of $500,000. All contributions are used to support NAACP education initiatives, community programs and events throughout the nation.
“The NAACP stands for progress and opportunity, and that resonates with corporate donors,” said Stephenson, who spoke today at the NAACP Centennial Convention in New York City. “At AT&T, we share the NAACP’s passion for helping America’s youth stay in school and on track for successful careers. It’s our philanthropic focus as well through our AT&T Aspire program.”
AT&T has been a long-time supporter of the NAACP. Over the past 25 years, AT&T has provided more than $11 million in grants and contributions to support similar NAACP initiatives. Additionally, William T. Ellinghaus, one of AT&T’s past presidents, served as the chair of the NAACP’s first corporate campaign in 1979.
“We appreciate the support AT&T has given us throughout the years and during this historic campaign,” said Benjamin Todd Jealous, NAACP President and CEO. “We’re encouraged by the results of the campaign so far and look forward to surpassing our $5 million goal.”
