MIPS Technologies Leverages Digital Home Leadership to Drive Android beyond the Mobile Handset

MIPS Technologies is bringing the power of the Android™ platform to the vast MIPS® development community across the world. MIPS developers can now use this revolutionary platform for consumer devices such as set-top boxes, digital TVs, mobile internet devices (MIDs), home media players and VoIP systems.

MIPS Technologies is making the Android on MIPS source code publicly available. Click below to visit MIPSAndroid.org where you can access source code and documentation, and join the growing community developing around Android on MIPS!

What is Android?

Android is a rich, ready-to-use software stack that is easily adaptable to different hardware platforms. It includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. With Android and the dynamic open source development community around it, developers can easily and quickly create new applications, and OEMs can leverage the increasingly broad set of available applications for their devices.

Driving Android into the Digital Home

MIPS Technologies has a broad ecosystem around its processor cores and architecture. The MIPS ecosystem around Android enables OEMs to quickly optimize for their specific platforms. MIPS’ own tools, as well as those from Viosoft and Mentor Graphics, are available to support Android development and porting.

Together with our ecosystem partners, silicon partners and working groups of the Open Embedded Software Foundation (OESF), an organization focused on driving Android beyond mobile handsets, MIPS Technologies is working to define standardized Android-based platforms for consumer devices.

Android beyond the mobile handset is fast becoming a reality.

One Common Tree for Driving Android into the Digital Home

We encourage customers and partners to download the source code from MIPSAndroid.org and optimize it for their own platforms; then deliver the code back to the source tree so we can continue to build in one common tree.
