Ruckus Wireless Debuts on the Inc. 500 List of America's Fastest-Growing Private Companies Takes #1 Spot in Telecom
Strong Demand for Better Wi-Fi Drives Explosive Growth, Ranking the Company #26 Overall among Prestigious 2009 Inc. 500 Award Winners.
SUNNYVALE, Calif., -- Ruckus Wireless, a Wi-Fi technology innovator, announced its debut on Inc. Magazine's 28th annual Inc. 500 list of America's fastest growing private companies. Ruckus Wireless ranked No. 26 overall on the Inc. 500 list with a three-year growth rate of 4,540 percent.
The company was also ranked No. 1 in the Top 100 Telecommunications Companies, No. 2 in the Top 10 Women-Run Companies and Number 1 in the Top 10 Asian-Run Companies.
Ruckus Wireless was the first company to develop and deliver "Smart Wi-Fi" products and technology that extend Wi-Fi range and enhance reliability by automatically focusing and directing signals over the best performing paths while continuously steering signals away from interference.
This breakthrough enabled, for the first time, the reliable transmission of digital, IP-based television transmissions over standard Wi-Fi along with a four-fold increase in wireless coverage and reliability. Since it began shipping "Smart Wi-Fi" systems in 2005, Ruckus Wireless has shipped nearly 2 million Smart Wi-Fi systems to leading broadband carriers, enterprises and hotspot operators around the world.
"The mobile data lifestyle is driving an insatiable demand for reliable wireless connectivity everywhere," said Seamus Hennessy, chief financial officer at Ruckus Wireless. "Our strong growth reflects this reality and the simple need for better Wi-Fi products and technology. Ruckus Wireless was founded on this single premise."
The 2009 Inc. 500 measures revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Additionally, they had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent--not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies--as of December 31, 2008. The minimum revenue required for 2005 is $200,000; the minimum for 2008 is $2 million.
Founded in 2004, Ruckus Wireless has raised approximately $39 million in financing from premier venture capital investors, consumer electronics companies and broadband operators such as Sequoia Capital, Motorola, T-Ventures, Telus, Sutter Hill Ventures, Firelake Capital, Mitsui, Sequoia and others. Ruckus Wireless was founded by Victor Shtrom and Bill Kish and is led by President and CEO Selina Lo.
"If you want to know which companies are going to change the world, look at the Inc. 500," said Inc. editor Jane Berentson. "These are the most dynamic, fast-growth companies in the nation, the ones finding innovative solutions to problems, creating smart systems, and inventing products we soon discover we can't live without. The Inc. 500 list is Inc. magazine's tribute to American business ingenuity and ambition."
