Japan-based Emobile to launch 3.9G LTE services in 2010
Japan-based mobile operator Emobile plans to launch 3.9G LTE services in 2010 before launching 4G LTE services in 2012, according to company president and COO Eric Gan.
With a subscriber base of more than 1.8 million users, Emobile currently accounts for a 26.9% share of 3G mobile data market in Japan, trailing after only Softbank Mobile's 33.3% and NTT DoCoMo's 27%, Gan noted.
In July 2009, Emobile started offering HSPA+ services, which enabled download speeds of 21Mbps and upload speeds of 5.8Mbps, allowing Emobile to compete more effectively with DSL fixed-line operators, Gan stated.
Emobile expects its operations to break even by the end of 2009, Gan revealed.
