Orange launches Sound of Orange RockCorps Music Experience

- Orange launches Sound of Orange RockCorps – a new application where you can create your own versions of the latest music tracks
- Users can share their own remixes on Facebook and create joint tracks with their friends
- Sound of Orange RockCorps will be kicking off with sounds made by 8000 Orange RockCorps volunteers

Orange has launched The Sound of Orange RockCorps, an innovative social music experience that allows people to create remixes of well known tracks using their own voice and sounds produced by their friends. The new application www.orangerockcorps.co.uk/soundoforangerockcorps enables users to record their own singing through their PC microphone or mobile phone. People can create their own unique music or connect with friends through Facebook to create a joint track.
Created by digital agency Poke, The Sound of Orange RockCorps will include new tracks and a top performance section where the best tracks will be showcased. The site also features a blog, a video all about The Sound of Orange RockCorps and useful tips about how to record the best sounds. Users are able to invite friends to make music with them through Facebook and updates will appear in the Facebook newsfeed. It is also possible to post a link to your own remixes on blogs and websites.
The aim is for the new application to increase awareness of Orange RockCorps, the music-led volunteer programme which provides a way for young people to experience the value of giving something back to their local community. The programme inspires young people to volunteer within their local community to earn a concert ticket in return. 5,000 volunteers at the Orange RockCorps gig tonight at the Royal Albert Hall will be given USB wrist-bands including exclusive music tracks, behind- the-scenes footage from the gigs and information about the application to encourage volunteers to make their own remixes.
Spencer McHugh, Brand Director at Orange UK said: “The Sound of Orange RockCorps is about encouraging friends to have fun making music together. Hopefully the new application will also help to increase awareness of the Orange RockCorps programme resulting in more volunteers helping their local communities.”
Volunteers attending tonight’s Orange RockCorps gig have been encouraged to record themselves in the Orange RockCorps Taxi, a vehicle with a recording booth which was at the volunteering projects over the summer. Volunteers captured their own, individual sounds which have been used to create two exclusive well known tracks - remixed by electronic pioneer Tom Middleton, and played out on the night by BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank.
This year, 8,000 people from across the country volunteered for Orange RockCorps, giving four hours to make a difference in their local community. Anyone wishing to take part in Orange RockCorps can register by visiting http://www.orangerockcorps.co.uk. Users wishing to record their own tracks and share their remixes with friends should visit www.orangerockcorps.co.uk/soundoforangerockcorps

Orange RockCorps
The Orange RockCorps programme, a partnership between Orange and RockCorps, inspires young people to volunteer within their local community by producing concerts for which you can’t buy a ticket. Rather, you must do 4 hours of volunteer work in a RockCorps volunteer project to earn a ticket to the gig. All volunteer projects are completed in partnership and for the benefit of local charity partners. Research has shown that over 96% of the participants would volunteer with Orange RockCorps again, and 57% would volunteer in their local community without the incentive of a ticket.
RockCorps
RockCorps launched in 2005 to affect social change and act as the bridge between communities in need and the young adults who want to make them better. Since that time, RockCorps has combined the power of music, community and volunteerism to expose young people to simple ways they can proactively contribute. This is much more than a series of volunteer events and concerts; it is a way to connect young people with dynamic charities already doing great work in the local community.
