Huawei poised to tap Taiwan HSPA+ data card market
China-based Huawei Technology has sent samples of its HSPA+ data cards to mobile Internet-access service providers in Taiwan for testing as local carriers are expected to launch HSPA+ services in 2010, according to industry sources.
Huawei said that it has already launched HSPA+ data cards in Singapore and Japan, and is ready to cooperate with Taiwan carriers to launch HSPA+ services. Citing data from GFK, Huawei also said it was the top ranking data card supplier in Japan in 2008 with a 54.7% market share.
In Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has said it plans to launch HSPA+ services in the second half of 2010 supporting download speeds of up to 21Mbps.
In addition to Huawei, China-based ZTE and Taiwan-based BandRich and Quanta Computer are also expected to step into the HSPA+ data card market in Taiwan, added the sources.
