Tweet, Tweet: Sprint and Audubon Release New Bird Call Ringtones

Field Sparrow and Red-bellied Woodpecker among 28 bird calls available.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-- Sprint (NYSE:S) announced via the social networking site Twitter the release of new downloadable bird call ringtones in association with National Audubon Society. The 28 ringtones include the melodic calls of birds such as the Field Sparrow, the Red-bellied Woodpecker and the Black-capped Chickadee. The ring tones are available to Sprint customers and can be downloaded by texting BIRD to 1111 or by going to the Sprint Digital Lounge at www.sprint.com (standard text messaging rates apply). The bird song ringtones will help raise awareness of Audubon’s mission to protect and conserve birds and their natural habitats. The ringtones are available for download on many Sprint handsets including the eco-friendly Samsung Reclaim.

“We recognize that protecting bird populations is vital to the overall health of our environment, especially as birds can provide urgent warnings about threats to our water, air, natural resources, climate and more,” said Ralph Reid, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility for Sprint. “Sprint customers can download these fun and unique ringtones in support of a great cause. This new partnership is another example of the active role Sprint is taking to create sustainable initiatives, policies and programs, as well as to support existing organizations and programs that promote environmental consciousness and sustainability.”

“Birdsong is one of the best-loved sounds of the natural world,” stated Sandy Pinto, director, Licensing at Audubon. “Thanks to this new program from Sprint, mobile phone users can help to raise awareness to protect birds and their habitats, and, at the same time, enjoy some of our most beautiful and unique bird calls every time the phone rings.”

In August, Sprint launched the new Samsung Reclaim™, the first full-featured eco-friendly phone to be made available in the U.S. that is made partly from bio plastic and 80 percent recyclable materials. Sprint also recently announced the availability of new eco-friendly accessories including a new SOLIO solar- powered charger and carrying cases made from cotton. Sprint’s expanding line of eco-friendly products and accessories are featured in a dedicated green section of all Sprint-owned retail stores.

Sprint is committed to being a leading green telecom and was recently ranked highest among all telecom companies at #15 on Newsweek’s Green Rankings of America’s 500 largest corporations.
