ABBYY FotoTranslate teach Nokia smartphones to translate words on photographs

ABBYY is announced the release of its program for smartphones Nokia - ABBYY FotoTranslate, which, in her words, quickly and accurately translate the words to pictures made built-in camera on mobile devices.

The peculiarity of this application is the fact that here the combined mobile version of optical character recognition and modern electronic dictionaries. To use the new program does not require an Internet connection, network coverage or access to any external database of dictionaries - all that is necessary for recognition and translation is already in the ABBYY FotoTranslate.

The software maker believes that ABBYY FotoTranslate help in situations where the required translation of foreign words: for example, when ordering dishes from the restaurant menu, reading books, newspapers, street signs, price tags in shops or on road signs.

ABBYY FotoTranslate supports translation from English, German, French, Italian, Spanish into Russian and from Russian into these languages. It uses modern dictionaries known authors, publishers, and the most current and complete versions of dictionaries ABBYY Lingvo, developed by the company itself ABBYY.

For translation using ABBYY FotoTranslate no longer need to type words on the keyboard: simply pushing a button - you just need to take pictures of the words you want to translate - the program does everything else itself. Word on the photo will be recognized and automatically converted to text, then the program finds its meaning in the dictionary and the translation appears on the screen. If part of the word was not included in the frame, ABBYY FotoTranslate suggest possible spellings, from which you can select the appropriate. If you photographed the whole text, the application will translate all the words in the picture, with no need to make new photos.

Based ABBYY FotoTranslate lay compact recognition technology for mobile devices ABBYY Mobile OCR Engine, which is created on the basis of technology ABBYY FineReader.

ABBYY FotoTranslate will be produced in two versions:

• ABBYY FotoTranslate version with one language. Includes one direction of translation for one of five languages. Currently available lines "English -> Russian" and "German -> Russian, soon to be released a version for translation from French, Italian and Spanish into Russian and from Russian into the languages listed above. ABBYY FotoTranslate version with one language only sold as a download-version of the online store site ABBYY and other popular online stores. The recommended retail price - 290 rubles for one direction of translation.
• ABBYY FotoTranslate Multi-language version. It offers the possibility of translation from five European languages into Russian. Home sales ABBYY FotoTranslate Multi-language version is planned for February 2010, the product will be available as a boxed product, and as a download-version. Approximate retail price of boxed versions - 990 rubles, download-versions - 880 rubles.
Supported devices: Nokia smartphones running Symbian OS S60, built-in camera: 2 megapixel or higher with autofocus.
