Taiwan-based handset channel operator Arcoa plans to launch own Utec-branded smartphones in May 2010, according to the company. The Utec-branded smartphones will be available in Windows Mobile or Android platforms.
Total sales of own-branded handsets, including feature phones and smartphones, are projected at 150,000 units in 2010, the same as the amount sold in 2009, the company said.
Including other brands, Arcoa expects its total handset sales to reach 900,000 units in 2010, an increase of 12.5% from 2009. Revenues for 2009 will total NT$5.5 billion (US$179.8 million), down slightly as compared to 2008, the company said.
Arcoa has also begun marketing the K-Touch branded handsets from China-based Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment in the Taiwan market, and expects sales of K-Touch phones to increase substantially in 2010.
