ERICSSON ENABLES HYA CABLE TO OFFER ADVANCED TV SERVICES
•Taiwanese consumers get HD and increased channel choice
•Enhanced user experience increases value of service offering
•Operator equipped to provide 180K subscribers with advanced TV services
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has provided Hsin Yeong An (HYA) Cable, the Taiwanese cable operator, with a fully redundant head-end solution that enables it to offer subscribers a richer, more advanced service. The Ericsson solution will enable HYA Cable to provide consumers with increased channel choice and high definition (HD) programming.
“Consumers are demanding a more advanced television service that offers greater quality and increased choice with the content they watch. We are committed to delivering a TV service that exceeds the expectations of our customers, so it is important to select a solution that enables us to do this effectively,” said Chun-Lung Wu, President of HYA Cable. “We are pleased to draw upon the experience of the Ericsson team and the company’s track-record in delivering next-generation, advanced systems that greatly enhance the viewing experience for consumers.”
HYA Cable has deployed a range of Ericsson cable head-end solutions, including video encoders, MX8400 multiplexers, and EdgeQAM modulators. The Ericsson head-end has been integrated by the company’s Taiwan business partner, Hitron Tech. HYA Cable is encoding HD and SD channels in MPEG-4 AVC, taking advantage of the high bitrate efficiencies provided by this next-generation compression technology. The resultant bandwidth savings enable HYA Cable to roll out more advanced services for its subscribers. The company uses an IP head-end configuration, which makes it easier to connect devices onsite and reduces the cost of cabling and video transport.
“We are pleased to be working with Hsin Yeong An Cable to provide an industry leading head-end solution to help drive the transition of its cable subscribers to advanced digital TV services,” said Mats H Olsson, President of Ericsson China & North East Asia. “We are committed to helping TV operators across Asia to deploy state-of-the-art technology that delivers digital services such as increased channel choice and HDTV to subscribers on efficient and flexible distribution platforms.”
