Services Talk: modernize networks or miss the data revolution

In the latest film in our Services Talk series, Jan Ögren, Head of Finance and Sales at Ericsson’s Business Unit Global Services, outlines the need for operators to modernize networks to meet current and future data traffic demand. He says that Ericsson, as a one-stop-shop end-to-end provider, stands ready to help operators meet their challenges.

Ögren says that about 1.5 million of the estimated 5 million radio base stations currently in operation globally cannot be upgraded to the future-proof technologies required to meet data-traffic demands – such as EDGE, HSPA or LTE. He says operators with those base stations could benefit from immediate transformation programs.

But he also highlights other factors that make the case for operators to modernize networks, such as cost-efficiency benefits related to operations and maintenance, energy-efficiency benefits and even increased revenues from voice traffic due to improved quality.

With more consumers buying smartphones and using mobile broadband with increasing demand for multimedia services and applications, Ögren says all operators must review the operation of their networks to ensure that customer expectations are met.

With product and services expertise from planning and design through implementation and on to network optimization, Ögren says Ericsson has the experience to handle operators’ network modernization in an efficient and sustainable way.
He asks operators one simple question: "We are ready – are you?"
