MGTS introduces optical communication lines

Operator MTS has announced that its subsidiary, Moscow City Telephone Network, one of the largest operators of local wire communication in Europe, has launched a project to build broadband networks based on technology GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Networks) using optical cables.

Until the end of 2011, MGTS plans to provide access to modern digital communication services based on GPON technology for more than 400 thousand households in Moscow. GPON technology enables us to provide services of the modern digital telephone, digital TV, broadband Internet access at speeds up to 100 Mbps. This enables the MGTS to introduce new services for subscribers, including High Definition Television (HDTV), video surveillance, fire protection, video and other interactive services.

Until the end of 2011 can be connected to modern services of MGTS subscribers will receive in the North, Northeast, Northwest and Western district (Petrovsky and Tushinsky centers services).

Development of subscriber access network technology based GPON - Evolution program MGTS digitalization, fiber-optic infrastructure will be brought to each urban object to each subscriber and is integrated into the previously created by the core IMS.

As previously reported, the complete digitalization of MGTS telephone network to the end of 2011 through the use of mediators in the numbering plan - a special set of equipment, interoperable analog switches with IP-networks. Using this technology, Moscow City Telephone Network to complete digitalization of the network for two years ahead of schedule and the transfer of subscribers to a closed numbering plan, involving a ten-digit dialing. The project on implementation of GPON technology will be available to subscribers to MGTS tariff plans with speeds of Internet access from 10 to 100 Mbit / c and the monthly fee in the range of 500-1500 USD per month.
