Will HTC's Real GSM EVO 3D Please Stand Up? (Images)
HTC rolled out a new site for developers earlier today, and with it came more intrigue into the mystery surrounding the inevitable GSM version of the company's dual-core, qHD EVO 3D. As you can see above and below, the handset being used to illustrate the EVO 3D on one dev site banner is quite different from the two variants we've previously seen: the Sprint-branded one unveiled at CTIA in March and an unbranded doppelganger on HTC's global site which had its telltale specs page pulled down soon after being posted.
Besides the obvious color change (and the curious use of an older Sense build), the first difference that stands out on the dev site image is the lack of circles around its buttons, which has so far been a stylistic touch reserved for HTC's Androids on Sprint. Secondly, the earpiece and front-facing camera are more reminiscent of the Thunderbolt's than the CDMA EVO's, while the camera shutter button also seems less round and more oval. Finally, numerous changes are visible on the back of this latest render, from the shape of the flash to the revised text to the missing color accent surrounding the camera module.
So what does this all mean? It's no secret that HTC plans to take this device international, as we learned from a leaked ROM going by the name Shooter_U (EVO 3D CDMA is just Shooter). What we don't know is exactly how it will look, thanks to HTC having quietly replaced some of the original press shots on EVO's product page with restyled ones a few weeks ago, and now showing off a phone that is fundamentally different from either version we saw before. So is this the final GSM EVO 3D on the dev site? An early render? Some thrown-together composite? We'll have to wait to find out.
