Orange aims to build confidence in the cloud
Orange UK announced research resultsi which suggest that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are well equipped and eager to take advantage of cloud computing services, but are being held back by security concerns.
With the number of SMEs adopting cloud-enabling devices such as smartphones and tablets shooting up to 79 percentii in 2010, the survey found that half of SMEs (49 percent) would like to use cloud services for the increased flexibility that this gives to their business – allowing them to do as much or as little as they want in the cloud to reflect their business needs.
However, results from this survey show that two-thirds of SMEs questioned are still waiting to take advantage of the cloud. Business leaders revealed that concerns over device security is the main factor holding them back, and 45 percent would embrace cloud services if they were assured about the safety and privacy of their business data.
Martin Lyne, Director of SME at Everything Everywhere said: “The scalable and pay-as-you-use nature of the cloud will bring a new level of flexibility to business, improving agility and businesses efficiency. However, we recognise that some businesses still have security concerns as they start to consider adopting the new technologies available to them, so we are helping to ensure that they are confident their access to cloud services is fully secure. Managed VPN solutions and data encryption are just a couple measures our customers can adopt that help offer fast and secure access to the cloud through a mobile device. We are committed to helping businesses keep all information secure and private, whilst getting the most out of the technology available to them.”
