SFR, Nokia Siemens Networks offer glimpse of 4G mobile broadband

Operator conducts LTE demo in Marseille using Nokia Siemens Networks’ equipment

SFR, France’s second-largest telecom operator, offered a sneak peek at fourth generation - 4G - mobile broadband delivered with Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. The operator conducted a live demonstration for the press in Marseille using Nokia Siemens Networks’ Single RAN radio access equipment and Evolved Packet Core (EPC)*. The companies showcased very high-speed mobile internet access with near instant response times.

SFR highlighted the potential of 4G in bringing a new dimension to a mobility user’s experience. The event featured demonstrations of live video upstreaming, 3D video streaming and remote controlled racing cars, all done though LTE technology.

To enable the demonstration, Nokia Siemens Networks provided its award-winning LTE-ready Flexi Multiradio Base Stations and Evolved Packet Core.

“Nokia Siemens Networks is already working with SFR to optimize its subscribers’ current mobile broadband experience through end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) management in the operator’s network. As a long-standing partner, we have helped the operator continuously ramp up the bandwidth of its 3G network. Today, we are excited to help SFR showcase the potential of LTE,” said Ana-Maria Gimenez, head of the SFR customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks.
