Samsung Galaxy Nexus: Super sharp screen hides secret flaw

There’s no denying that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus’s screen is nothing short of stunning. At 720 x 1280 pixels, it’s beautifully sharp and makes Android Ice Cream Sandwich look even slicker. But if you were planning on snagging one, just beware of dropping it. Because it’s just been confirmed that the phone’s panel isn’t made from Gorilla Glass.

This might not seem like a huge deal at first. But Gorilla Glass, made by Corning, has become a staple of top-end Android phones. Samsung’s Galaxy SII uses it, as do a string of HTC Android handsets.

Corning confirmed the news last night on Twitter, directing disappointed users to Samsung’s door. For its part, Sammy said it was using ‘fortified’ glass on the Galaxy Nexus. However, until we get our hands on the device and give it a going over, it’s unclear how this will stand up to Gorilla Glass’s brilliant reputation for never picking up cracks or scratches.

Does this make the Galaxy Nexus less appealing? Or aren’t you fussed about how the screen can handle wear and tear? Tell us down below in the comments.
