Sony Ericsson buys stake in a joint venture for the production of mobile terminals

Ericsson's and Sony today announced that Sony Ericsson will acquire pyatidesyatiprotsentnuyu share in their joint venture Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, engaged in the production of mobile terminals, resulting in mobile business will be transferred under the "wing" a subsidiary of Sony, belonging to it at 100%.

As stated in by Sony, this deal will enable it to quickly integrate smart phones in its wide range of network devices, consumer electronics, including tablet PCs, televisions and personal computers - for the benefit of consumers and increase their business. The deal will also affect the intellectual property (IP), cross-licensing agreement covering all products and services to Sony, as well as the rights to five major families of patents involving wireless phone technology.

As part of the deal, Ericsson will each receive a bonus of 1.05 billion euros.

The deal, which was approved by the respective governing bodies of both companies, is expected to close in January 2012, subject to normal closing conditions, including approval from regulatory agencies.
