Jupiter Global Threat Center: the number of malware for smartphones continues to rise

The study conducted by Jupiter Global Threat Center shows that in July 2011, the number of malicious software directed at devices with the Android OS has increased by 472%. For four months the number of viruses, Trojans and other unwanted software has increased to a greater extent than in the period from summer 2009 to summer 2010. At the same time 55% of malware is all sorts of spyware, engaged in the collection and forwarding of information, while 44% are SMS trojans that are designed to empty the account holder apparatus. It is noted that the explosive growth in popularity of viruses for Android is associated with the growing popularity of the operating system. This research group sees the problem is that Google's policy to deploy software applications in the store allows attackers to easily distribute their software. Lack of moderation and verification of applications for efficiency on the one hand allows to quickly increase the number of items in the store, but on the other excludes the possibility of detecting malware on the stage of placement. Also notes that the developer's account costs only $ 25, and make it anonymous relatively simple. In this case the operating system Android is not allocated by the level of vulnerability. Jupiter Global Threat Center indicates that despite a significant increase in the number of malicious software, while these figures are far from the poverty that characterize the world of computers running on Windows. Neither the number of viruses or epidemics Android in comparison can not go. But the gap on the safe use of Android and iOS is growing, primarily because of different policies hosting applications in shops between Google and Apple.
