Japanese operators establish a consortium for the promotion of NFC services that are compatible with several international standards
Japanese mobile operator DOCOMO, KDDI and SOFTBANK announced the establishment of the Japanese mobile NFC consortium (Japan Mobile NFC Consortium) for the coordination and adoption of several international standards on technology NFC (Near Field Communication), embedded in their mobile devices and services.
Three Japanese operator is now offering its customers mobile payment service Osaifu-Keitai (mobile wallet), based on the use of contactless payment cards FeliCa. However, outside of Japan, mobile operators and service providers are increasingly applying the standards Type A and Type B for NFC services. In connection with this world trend, the consortium intends to work with the mobile industry groups in Japan, including service providers and handset manufacturers, including standards support Type A and Type for Japanese mobile ecosystem.
