MTS mobile retail market in 2011
The mobile operator MTS, presented an analytical report of its retail network of experts on the outcome of the mobile retail in Russia for Q4 and 2011:
According to the Retail MTS mobile phone market volume in Russia in kind in 2011 amounted to about 40.5 million vehicles, up 16% compared with 2010. The number of phones sold in Russia in the 4th quarter of 2011 increased by 11% compared to same period last year, sold 11.7 million vehicles.
In 2011, the volume of the mobile phone market in monetary terms, amounted to about 174.8 billion rubles, up 12% compared with the previous year.
In Q4 2011 the market in terms of money has increased by 6% over the same period last year to 51.7 billion rubles.
In 2011, the mobile phone market in quantitative terms, for the first time back to pre-crisis level of sales in 2008. Despite the recovery of sales in value terms, in terms of money market is growing at a slower pace. The decrease in the average price of a mobile phone affects more competition between handset manufacturers, including the struggle for leadership in the Russian market between Nokia and Samsung, the development of new technologies, which reduces the cost of production of gadgets, and increased competition in the market situation, mobile retail in Russia. Overall, in 2011 the average price of mobile phones fell by 3% to 4315 rubles compared to 2010.
In the 4th quarter of 2011 was sold about 2.6 million smartphones. The volume of the smartphone market in value terms in 2011 amounted to about 7.7 million vehicles, surpassing the volume of last year more than doubled.
In monetary terms in Q4 2011 smartphone market grew 48% over the same period last year to 27.6 billion rubles. In 2011, the volume of the smartphone market in monetary terms, reached 83.3 billion rubles, up 80% compared with the previous year.
At the end of Q4 2011 smartphone share in the total number of mobile phones sold were 22%, which is 6.9 pp more than the value for the previous year. Overall, in 2011 the share of smartphones in quantitative terms was 19%, exceeding the value of the previous year, more than twice. For the first time in the 4th quarter of 2011 the share of smart phones had more than half of the mobile phone market in terms of money - 53.3% annualized share of smartphones in terms of money grew by 14.9 pp. As a result of 2011 the share of smartphones in monetary terms amounted to 47.7%, which is 17.9 pp greater than 2010.
