Samsung developing new pixel layout for its small-size AMOLED panels

Samsung Display is reportedly working on new pixel layouts for use in its upcoming small-size AMOLED panels in order to bump up the panels' resolutions, according to industry sources.

The sources said Samsung is developing hexagon- and diamond-shaped pixel layouts for the panels in order to increase resolutions above 440ppi, which is difficult to achieve using the current side-by-side layout.

The panels are likely to be made via a LITI production process, and used in Samsung's reported Galaxy S4, which when released will likely have one of the highest resolution displays on the market, noted the sources.
