The number of downloads of iTunes U has exceeded 1 billion


Apple today announced that the number of downloads from iTunes U surpassed 1 billion. iTunes U offers all iOS users access to an online directory of free educational materials by the best known educational institutions and libraries, museums and organizations, while providing support to teachers in the creation of educational lectures, check assignments, books, tests, and other content.

More than 1,200 colleges and universities, as well as 1,200 schools offer more than 2,500 public and closed thousands of courses that cover areas such as the arts, science, health and medicine, education, business and more. Teachers can create courses for iTunes U in 30 countries, including Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and South Korea, which recently joined the program. These courses, along with other educational materials can be accessed through the iTunes U app in 155 countries. In addition to the thousands of individual training materials in iTunes U, users of devices based on iOS in the App Store is now available more than 75,000 educational applications.
