Samsung outlines exchange program for recalled Galaxy Note 7
Samsung will be allowing buyers of the company's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in the US the ability to exchange their device following Friday's recall over a battery flaw.
Customers that have purchased the Galaxy Note 7 can exchange their device for a replacement following Friday's recall.
Customers will be able to either exchange their existing device for a new Note 7 as early as next week, or exchange it for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge phone while receiving a refund of the price difference.
"Samsung is taking a proactive approach to address customer needs around the Note 7," Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America said in a statement. "The safety and satisfaction of our customers is Samsung's top priority."
The phone has been on sale for two weeks and the company announced that it had sold 2.5 million devices worldwide as of Friday. However, the company received 35 separate reports of battery issues. People have been posting images on social media of charred Galaxy Note 7 phones, claiming that they overheated or exploded.
In addition, affected customers will be receiving either a $25 gift card or a bill credit from select carriers after exchanging the device for a new one.
