Nokia Siemens Networks launches industry-first single optical platform serving Metro to Core

New hiT 7300 combines market-leading performance and cost benefits to carriers
Nokia Siemens Networks today introduces the industry’s first DWDM single platform serv-ing metro to core, raising the bar in the optical transport field offering carriers an efficient and cost effective solution. The new release of the hiT 7300 combines its renowned core network performance with extended support for metro services.

Competitive DWDM platforms on the market currently require at least two DWDM systems to cover the spectrum of reaches, transmission speed and applications in metro, regional, long-haul and ultra-long haul. Nokia Siemens Networks’ hiT 7300 supports all reaches and transmission speeds at pay-as-you-grow economics that meets market price levels at each category of application seg-ment (i.e. metro, regional, long haul and ultra-long haul) on one platform.

“A single solution is the best way to help carriers respond to CAPEX and OPEX pressure. Having one platform for all reaches and applications reduces the cost for: Spares, operation and mainte-nance, training and network management, space and power consumption”, said Bernd Schumacher head of IP transport at Nokia Siemens Networks.

The new release of hiT 7300 comes with a rich multi-service and multi-reach feature set. Trans-ponder cards support traditional SONET/SDH, Ethernet and Storage Area Network (SAN) services at different speeds. The client interfaces offer a maximum of flexibility as the service type is soft-ware configurable. To further reduce space and power the latest release of hiT 7300 is also avail-able in a flatpack form factor suitable as customer premise equipment (CPE) for tight space re-quirements. hiT 7300 let’s the customer decide to use CWDM, DWDM or mix both on the same fiber; complemented with cost-efficient amplifier options and end-to-end management support for all equipment configurations, hiT 7300 breaks down the barriers between classical core and metro DWDM equipment.

hiT 7300 supports all possible network topologies: Point-To-Point, rings structures and meshed networks. As the market leading supplier for ROADMs (reconfigurable optical add-drop multi-plexer) and 40G transport solutions, Nokia Siemens Networks has the broadest portfolio for photonic networking. This ranges from cost-efficient and flexible OADM (optical add-drop multi-plexer) solutions, over ROADMs to multi-degree Photonic-Cross-Connects (PXC) supporting 80 channels. This allows carriers to cost-efficiently route traffic on the optical layer remotely saving truck rolls and site visits. ROADMs and PXC give carriers the opportunity to quickly and flexibly react to varying traffic demands.

hiT 7300 – the scalable and fully automated DWDM platform - comes with unique planning and configuration tool TransNet which the deployment as simple as plug-and-play. With more than 1500 systems shipped since its introduction hiT 7300 was able to address more than 50 customers in 38 countries.
