Compal Communications and Arima Communications vying for Android handset orders from Acer
Taiwan's top-two OEM handset makers Compal Communications and Arima Communications are both vying for Android-powered handset orders set to be released by Acer, according to market sources.
Acer already unveiled four Windows Mobile-based smartphones the DX900, F900, M900 and X960 in February and plans to launch four other Windows Mobile smartphones, the C1, E1, F1 and L1, plus one or two Android-powered models, in the second half of this year, the sources indicated.
Compal and Arima have both entered the development of Google's Android phone using chipset solutions from Qualcomm. However, Compal has a good chance of winning the orders although Arima currently makes Windows Mobile-based smartphones for Acer, speculated the sources.
