Motorola promoting i-SIM card business in Taiwan and China
Motorola has begun to promote its intelligent SIM (i-SIM) NFC (near field communication) Lite card business in Taiwan and China, according to TK Ng, general manager of global services at Motorola China Home and Networks Mobility.
In Taiwan, Motorola will team up with banking institutions and telecom carriers to push i-SIM cards and also cooperate with Taipei Smart Card Corporation for issuance of ticket-paying EasyCards, as well as 7-Eleven convenience stores for issuance of i-cash cards, NG indicated.
Taiwan will be a prime location to promote Motorola's new i-SIM NFC Lite card business due to a mature non-contact payment environment in Taiwan, Ng added.
The i-SIM cards can be mounted on SIM cards of users' handsets and non-contact IC cards, without replacement of NFC-enabled handsets or POS system of retail stores, Ng explained.
