AT&T Customers Get More Mobile Broadband Coverage in the Twin Cities
New Cell Sites Activated as Part of Ongoing AT&T Investment in Local Wireless Network.
As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications, AT&T* announced the activation of 45 new 3G cell sites across the Twin Cities area that will enhance coverage for area residents and businesses. The communities that will see enhanced coverage include Cambridge, Center City, East Bethel, Farmington, Hastings, Isanti, Lindstrom, Northfield, Osceola, Red Wing, Taylors Falls and neighboring communities in Wisconsin. The 3G network has also been enhanced along major roadways, including I-35 and I-94.
The new cell sites are one part of AT&T’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation and extend its 3G wireless network – the fastest in the nation, according to independent testing. It is also part of AT&T’s ongoing investment to build the broadband networks that will fuel economic growth and create jobs, and enable the its customers to quickly access the content, applications and services that matter most to them. From 2006 to 2008, AT&T’s total investment in its wireless and wireline networks in Minnesota was more than $225 million.
“Across its national footprint, AT&T is investing billions of dollars to build the advanced broadband networks, both wired and wireless, that will create jobs and fuel economic growth. Through this investment, AT&T also is contributing to the local economy in Northfield and the greater Twin Cities region by creating and preserving high-tech jobs that pay well and have good benefits,” said Bob Bass, president, AT&T Minnesota.
“We’re delighted about AT&T's investment in technology, especially wireless technology, here in Northfield and nearby communities,” said State Sen. Kevin Dahle. “The capabilities provided by this new network enhance the quality of life for our residents and the growth of our local economy.
