Orange optimizes mobile broadband network
* Goal: Quality leadership with mobile broadband
* Energy savings of up to 40%
* Orange counts on multi-standard radio technology from Ericsson
Orange prepares for upgrading of its nationwide mobile broadband network in Austria and relies on technology from Ericsson. The voice and data network will be expanded within the next two years with the latest Ericsson multi-standard radio technology.
Using the latest technology from Ericsson, the network capacity is increased significantly for each Orange customer. "This will allow a greater number of customers to consume data services with higher download bit rates, all at the same time," said Orange CTO Elmar Grasser. "Out network has been rated very well at the latest Connect network test in the fall of 2009. Our goal is quality leadership in mobile broadband. "
Roland Nordgren, President Ericsson Austria und Ericsson Customer Unit Central Europe: "With this network optimization Orange takes an important step towards the next generation of mobile networks paving the way for LTE. Orange customers will benefit already now from a more powerful network, particularly at sites with much traffic, but also in rural area."
As part of the further network expansion, a new generation of multi-standard radio base stations is introduced, that distinguishes itself by exceptional energy efficiency. The new generation of radio base stations allows energy savings of up to 40% which underlines Orange efforts in sustainable operations. It is the first time that 2G, 3G and 4G technology can be combined into one base station.
In March, Orange, as the first mobile operator in Austria, deployed together with Ericsson 42 Mbit/s in the live network of Orange Future Town in Wiener Neustadt. The rollout for 42 Mbit/s for the rest of Austria is planned for late 2010. In parallel, Orange is working on the network-wide rollout of up to 21 Mbit/s.
