More than 16,000 people cheered with Ericsson during the world’s most popular sporting event

During the past month-and-a-half, football fans around the world have enthusiastically followed their favorite teams and players. Thanks to Ericsson's Big Cheer campaign, supporters from all over the world have been able to join in the cheering throughout the South African event. The campaign has enriched fans' experiences during the tournament by giving them a new way to share and celebrate their passion for football.

More than 16,000 people in 40 countries – from Argentina to Canada, Fiji to Spain and all points in between – shared their cheers via www.BigCheer.com, Facebook and Twitter. Participants could even watch their personal cheer being printed as confetti which fluttered around a 1.5m glass cube installation at Ericsson's offices in Sweden. Now that the games are over, the confetti will be passed on to the participating teams giving the world's football heroes a final cheer from their fans.

“The response to the Big Cheer campaign we initiated on June 11 was highly encouraging on many levels,” says Urban Fjellestad, Marketing Communications Manager at Ericsson. “It demonstrates the desire people have to communicate with others in new ways through social media communities. And we’re proud to say this is being made possible, in large part, by the technology we develop.”

Social media and online communities certainly embraced the campaign. More than 110 of the most popular blogs in Italy, France, Spain and the UK – with online communities that reach millions of readers – wrote about the initiative, helping to spread the word. The Big Cheer campaign was also recognized by some of the world’s most popular online advertising communities.

The football games may be over but the success of the Big Cheer campaign encourages us to continue to explore opportunities that will help people communicate more easily. By demonstrating how the communication technology we have to offer engages people in new and interesting ways, we work with our customers to expand the potential of their business and develop solutions that support tomorrow’s communication needs.
