New RSS Developers' Guidelines
Describing the RSS 2.0 implementation in Sony Ericsson phones, the new RSS Developers' Guidelines are available for download. This document is divided into two parts - the first section presents an overview covering adding/updating RSS feeds, RSS tickers and podcasts, and the second section outlines the RSS architecture with supported XML elements and includes three code examples.

Section 1: Overview
In Sony Ericsson mobile phones that include web feed (RSS functionality) based on the RSS 2.0 specification, web feeds are handled by a separate application, which seamlessly interacts with the NetFront™ Web browser in handling the creation of web feeds. An RSS ticker feature is implemented in phones with NetFront browser version 3.4, and if the ticker is enabled, new items in any feed are shown on the phone's standby screen. Phones with NetFront 3.4 also support podcast subscriptions.
More detail is added by the following sections:
- Adding web feeds: the four ways that an end-user can add Web feeds to a phone are listed, of which two are handled via the web browser.
- Updating web feeds: web feed update can be achieved manually or according to a schedule.
- Enclosure settings: enclosures are files attached to the web feed and these settings can be done separately for each feed.
- RSS ticker: implemented on phone with NetFront 3.4, the ticker is shown on the standby screen.
- Podcasts: podcasts are web feeds with enclosures of audio, video or images and are delivered on a user subscription.
Web feed update scheduling.
Section 2: RSS architecture
In this section you'll find a listing and description of the XML (Extensible Markup Language) elements, media RSS extensions and OPML (Outline Processor Markup Language) elements associated with RSS 2.0.
To make this more realistic, three code examples are also given covering the following topics:
- Web feed XML file
- OPML file
- Podcast
