AENA Awards TETRA Network at Zaragoza Airport to Motorola
Motorola to supply advanced TETRA solution to improve mission critical communications for airport staff
Madrid, Spain – 30 January 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it has won a contract through local integrator Amper Sistemas SA to supply Zaragoza airport in Spain with a new TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) digital radio system to aid airport operations. Aena awarded the contract to Amper Sistemas SA and is responsible for the development of air transport in Spain. The deployment of the new system, using Motorola’s Dimetra IP Compact solution, is scheduled for completion by July 2008.
The IP-based TETRA network will replace the airport’s existing analogue radio network and is based on Motorola’s ETSI TETRA compliant Dimetra IP system. It will provide secure, “always-on” mobile voice and data channels to improve external and internal airport communication.
Zaragoza will be hosting 2008 World Expo from 14 June until 14 September 2008. The international exhibition will celebrate a specific theme, which will be "Water and Sustainable Development." The event is expected to attract around 7.5 million visitors from around the world and Motorola’s TETRA system will help airport operations to continue to run efficiently with round the clock, high-quality service during the busy periods of the show.
“We are excited to be working with another airport in Europe to ensure reliable and secure communications are in place at all times,” said Manuel Torres, vice president, Motorola Government & Public Safety, EMEA. “This is further proof of Motorola’s expertise and heritage in delivering mission critical communications in the region.”
Today’s announcement adds to the growing number of contracts Motorola has won in markets such as transport and utilities. In 2007, for example, Motorola announced wins with Cologne Bonn, Munich and Leipzig/Halle airports (Germany) as well as Barcelona airport in Spain.
