Nokia Siemens Networks Bags AIS GSM Network Expansion Contract
Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract to expand leading Thai mobile operator, AIS, GSM network. The project, to be rolled out over the course of 2008, includes a Release 4 mobile softswitch solution that will help the mobile operator evolve towards advanced mobile services in the near future.
As the market leader in wireless services in Thailand, with over 23 million subscribers and a market share of more than 50%, AIS wanted a high performance and reliable solution to launch new advanced mobile services, while maintaining tight control over its total cost of ownership in network deployment.
With long time network partner Nokia Siemens Networks, AIS has expanded their network capacity in anticipation of subscriber growth and the launch of new and exciting mobile services. Nokia Siemens Network’s global leadership in mobile softswitching deployment is an advantage that will help AIS achieve their service-oriented goals. In addition to the GSM radio access network expansion, MSC Server and Media Gateway mobile softswitching solution, Nokia Siemens Networks is also providing its MSCi platform, all of them beside Network Implementation Services to reach an on-time network expansion and allow faster return on investments through effective Project and Technical management. Nokia Siemens Networks also takes care of hardware and software maintenance services, that are key to a high quality network and operations given the amount of software and the increasing complexity of the network. The AIS network continues to be supported by the multi-vendor, multi-technology NetAct network and service management solution
“We are constantly looking innovative ways of delivering new services to our customers, and this network expansion, as well as upgrade with Nokia Siemens Networks, allow us to achieve that aim,” said Weerawat Kiattipongthaworn, Executive Vice president - Operation, AIS.
“AIS’s market leadership and innovation is well and fully supported by Nokia Siemens Network, where our long term partnership with them has allowed us to better understand their needs, and offer a solution that takes them into the next phase of mobile communications, but retain a cost-efficient operation,” added Surakij Kiatthanakorn, Head of AIS CT team, Nokia Siemens Networks, Thailand.
With over 180 customers for its MSC Server System deployed ‘live’ in over 100 networks, Nokia Siemens Networks is clearly the most experienced mobile softswitch supplier worldwide.
