Motorola sees first quarter charge of $104 mln on job cuts
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Motorola Inc. expects a first-quarter net pre-tax charge of about $104 million from reducing its workforce by 2,600 employees, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday. The charges include $113 million for severance costs which is partially offset by $9 million of reversals for accruals from previous periods that are no longer needed, according to the Schaumburg, Ill.-based telecommunications company. "All of the above estimated charges are expected to result in future cash expenditures during 2008. All three of the company's business segments, as well as various corporate functions, are impacted by these plans," said Motorola in the filing.
