LG and Rogers Wireless Into New VU Phone
LG Electronics recently unveiled its new Touch series of mobile phones, available through Rogers Wireless (News - Alert) starting in May. One of these phones is the LG VU, featuring a touch screen and virtual QWERTY keypad.
“As the leading wireless carrier in the country, Rogers Wireless prides itself on offering our customers the latest innovations and best selection of handsets,” said John Boynton, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Rogers Wireless, in a statement.
Boynton added, “The perfect mix of design and technology powered by our 3G high-speed networks makes the LG VU a truly formidable device for gadget enthusiasts and style lovers alike.”
The LG VU combines a full HTML browser with Rogers Wireless' HSPA network. It also features a 2 megapixel camera with auto focus and a music player with 4GB storage.
“LG Canada is excited about the launch of the LG VU to Rogers' customers who place great importance on leading edge style and technology,” said Andrew Barrett, vice president of marketing at LG Electronics (News - Alert) Canada, in a statement. “With the LGVU we have completely unbuttoned a cell phone so Canadians can touch, stroke or glide their way through all of its innovative features.”
LG and Rogers Wireless expect that users will take advantage of the VU’s capabilities for applications like video on demand, music downloads and e-mail. The phone is compatible with GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSPA and supports 7.2 Mbps HSPA data connectivity.
Rogers Wireless (a Rogers Communications (News - Alert) subsidiary) is a Canadian wireless voice and data communications provider. It claims to be Canada’s largest wireless provider.
LG Electronics is a consumer electronics manufacturer that employs more than 82,000 employees worldwide. It makes mobile handsets, flat panel TVs, air conditioners, front-loading washing machines, optical storage products, DVD players and home theater systems.
