Warid and Huawei Deploy Pakistan's First Solar Powered Base Station
——Represents a Step-forward for Renewable Energy Use in Pakistani Telecoms Industry
[Dubai, UAE] Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunication solutions for operators around the world, has announced that Pakistani telecom operator, Warid Telecom, has deployed the country's first solar powered BTS site using Huawei's Solar Powered Macro Base Station (BTS). Huawei's environmentally-friendly Solar Powered Macro BTS allows the operator to extend its network reach into remote areas of the country where there is limited access to the electricity grid.
With the continued growth of mobile phone subscribers in Pakistan, operators are expanding network coverage especially in small and medium sized cities, suburban areas, countryside, as well as in mountainous areas with poor transportation links. Many of these remote areas have limited access to the electricity grid, and operators have traditionally used 1+1 Diesel Generator Solutions to power their network sites.
Warid Telecom chose to use Huawei's Solar Powered BTS due to several factors. The non-hybrid site is 100% powered on solar energy, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions and noise pollution, both of which is harmful to the local environment. The solution also reduces pressure on Pakistan's overall energy supply which further benefits the environment.
Huawei is committed to reducing power consumption and environmental impact of its telecoms equipment through technology innovation. To date, Huawei has introduced renewable energy solutions for mobile communication sites, such as solar solutions, solar & wind hybrid solutions, solar & diesel hybrid solutions. These environmentally-friendly solutions significantly reduce the total cost of ownership in the product life circle, optimizing energy efficiency, and bringing obvious benefits to operators. Huawei's renewable energy solutions provide network coverage to remote areas of the globe, providing enjoyable communications to more people.
