Global Mobile sets up WiMAX IOT network in cooperation with Clearwire
Taiwan-based WiMAX licensee Global Mobile on June 16 signed with Clearwire for cooperation to set up an IOT (interoperability testing) network at the Hsinchu Science Park in northern Taiwan, with a mobile plugfest testing service scheduled to begin at the end of July, according to the company.
The testing is expected to lead to the official inauguration of Global Mobile's commercial WiMAX services in September 2009 starting in the Hsinchu area, according to the company's roadmap.
The company plans to expand the coverage of its WiMAX services to include the Taoyuan area by the end of 2009 before further extending coverage to the Taipei area in 2010, said company chairperson Rosemary Ho.
In line with its roadmap, the company plans to purchase 300 WiMAX base stations from Samsung Electronics before year-end 2009, with Nokia Siemens Networks playing a system integrator role in building its network infrastructure, Ho noted.
