Inventec Appliances to focus on specialty netbook segment

Inventec Appliances will focus on the specialty segment as it steps into the netbook market, according to company chairman Jackson Chang.

In addition, Inventec aims to roll out netbooks with prices around US$300 featuring specific applications, said Chang, noting that such a policy will help avoid head-on competition with other branded netbook makers as well as white-box makers in China.

With regards to OEM business, the company has reduced its reliance on Apple, slashing the portion of Apple revenues to 30% of its total revenues in 2008, down from 48% in 2007.

Palm became Inventec's second largest OEM client, accounting for 22% of Inventec's total income in 2008 compared to 8% in the previous year, whereas the ratio of TomTom's revenues was flat at 20% last year, according to the company.
