Vee Telecom and Clearwire to ink cooperation pact on June 16

Taiwan-based WiMAX licensee Vee Telecom Multimedia will officially sign a cooperation agreement with US-based Clearwire on June 16 in Taichung, central Taiwan, according to market sources.

Details of the cooperation deal are to be announced at the signing ceremony. Vee said earlier that the US WiMAX operator will dispatch a management team to Vee to help on system integration and commercial operations and that Vee will pay Clearwire with cash as well as warrants for the services.

On the same day, Clearwire's executives will also attend an opening ceremony of an experimental WiMAX network set up in the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) by Global Mobile, another Taiwan-based WiMAX licensee.

The experimental networks will allow companies to set up within the HSP to try on the WiMAX network and services offered by Global Mobile, while also enabling Taiwan-based WiMAX CPE (consumer premise equipment) makers to test the compatibility of their products within the network, according to Global Mobile.

In other news, Clearwire plans to take up a certain amount of Global Mobile shares at NT$11.9 (US$0.36) per unit based on a three-year cooperation contract that the two companies signed in April, the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) indicated in a June 15 report.
