Taiwan market: Gigabyte Communications launches S1200 smartphone
Gigabyte Communications has launched its new Windows Mobile-based smartphone, the S1200, in the Taiwan market. The company also plans to launch the smartphone in other markets in Asia and Europe, according to company president Cheng Yao-jen.
The touch-enabled S1200 smartphone is built on Qualcomm 7200A platform and runs on Windows Mobile OS (operating system), according to company data.
Gigabyte has teamed up with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) to promote the S1200, which is available at NT$12,900 (US$392) on CHT's package sales in Taiwan.
Gigabyte plans to launch two to three new handsets in the second half of 2009, but the company has not yet decided to develop the Android-powered models, Cheng revealed.
