Djibouti Telecom selects Ericsson to introduce the country’s first 3G network
Djibouti Telecom and Ericsson announce contract for 2G and 3G networks
The deal is the first of its kind for Ericsson in Djibouti and will allow Djibouti Telecom to introduce new services such as mobile broadband to its customers
Djibouti Telecom (DT), the primary telecommunications provider in Djibouti, announced that it has partnered with Ericsson to enhance its 2G network with new capabilities and introduce a 3G network. The agreement will allow the company to introduce mobile broadband services and advanced 2G and 3G including roaming functionality.
The agreement supplements DT’s growth strategy and its continuous focus on improving the company capabilities and enhancing the customer experience by offering better networks and more advanced mobile broadband services.
DT will introduce a wide range of services to its customers with the new agreement, such as roaming capabilities and automatic device configuration (ADC) which is a complete solution for automatic mobile device management within Djibouti telecom’s mobile network. In addition to this, customers will also have access to mobile broadband services which will enable them to access the internet on the move from anywhere in the country. A service called ring back tone (RBT); which will allow subscribers to choose their own ring back tone that callers will hear when they dial their number is also being introduced, the service allows subscribers to express their individuality – replacing the traditional ring back tone a caller hears, before the called party answers, with an audio or sound effect.

Launched in September 1999 as the sole provider of telecommunication services in Djibouti, Djibouti Telecom offers a full range of services from fixed, Wireless services (GSM, CDMA), corporate and wholesale IP/DATA to ADSL networks.
