About TIM
Present in Brazil since 1998, TIM was the first mobile carrier to operate in all the states of the country. Focused on anticipating consumers’ demands with innovation and quality, the carrier’s client base soared from 36 million to more than 56.8 million from March 2009 to July 2011 when it regained second place in the cellular telephony market with share of 25.78%. This performance is the result of the strategic repositioning of the TIM brand, with the launch of innovative products and services and investments in network quality. In 2011 alone, the company will invest 85 percent of its R$ 2.9 billion in investments in infrastructure.
Negotiations to expand the company’s network include the acquisition of Intelig in December 2009 and AES Atimus in July 2011. In the same month, TIM signed a contract with Telebrás to participate in Brazil’s National Broadband Programme, becoming the first mobile carrier to contribute to universalizing internet access in Brazil. This reinforces TIM’s strategy of fomenting mobile web access combined with the offer of smartphones and the most competitively priced data plans in the market. The company also signed a contract with the LT Amazonas consortium to install an optic fiber network via electricity transmission towers in the states of Amazonas, Pará and Amapá, enabling the digital inclusion of people living in remote areas of the country.
Also worthy of note was the carrier’s entry into the BM&FBOVESPA Novo Mercado, recognized as having the highest levels of corporate governance. TIM is the only telecommunications operator in this segment of the stock market. For the third year running the company was also included in the BM&FBOVESPA ISE Business Sustainability Index and in the recently created Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2).
