In 2012, MTS has built more than 13,000 new base stations

OJSC "Mobile TeleSystems" (MTS operator) reported that in 2012 increased its third generation network by 25% to 28,000 base stations, launched 4G-network in the Moscow region and Kazan, as well as greatly expanded coverage of the second generation. Currently, the mobile network covers 98% of MTS populated area of Russia. Year MTS has built more than 5,000 new base stations of the third generation, about 6,000 base stations of the second generation in Russia and about 2000 4G base stations in the Moscow region. New MTS fourth generation can go to the network at speeds of up to 100 Mbit / s, and by passing a number of Russian cities on the technology HSPA +, MTS also increase the maximum speed Internet access in the third generation network, which have doubled to 42 Mbit / s. Such 3G speeds available to users in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Saratov, Yoshkar-Ola, Cheboksary, as well as in several cities in the Penza Region and Krasnodar Territory. During the year the number of mobile Internet users increased from MTS by 40%, and consumption of Internet traffic MTS subscribers increased by 160%, the company said. In 2012, the operator also completed a number of projects aimed at upgrading a second generation GSM network was fully renovated in Moscow, Pskov, Tver, Smolensk, and Magadan regions, Primorye, Kamchatka, the Trans-Baikal and Khabarovsk. Services provided have increased the capacity of networks to provide voice services by an average of 30%. MTS and similar projects underway in Rostov, Sakhalin, Irkutsk, Amur and Ulyanovsk regions, Tatarstan, Udmurtia and Yakutia, in the Stavropol region and other regions of the country. Besides developing external networks of base stations, MTS has implemented a program to provide quality communication in the premises: first year, the whole of Russia was established about one thousand indoor-making and more than 100 mini-base stations LTE. Also in November, the "big three" and Rostelecom announced a joint project to provide mobile communication highways of federal importance "Baikal", "Caspian", "Ural" and "Ussuri" total length of about 9000 km. The project will provide full coverage of cellular communication of key automotive arteries of the country. During 2013 the operators intend to establish with more than 200 new base stations in addition to the existing telecommunications infrastructure.
