The BlackBerry Storm Smartphone Is Coming to Hong Kong
First “Clickable” Touch-screen Smartphone Delivers Powerful Multimedia Features and Renowned BlackBerry Communications Experience
Hong Kong - Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today introduces the BlackBerry® Storm™ smartphone in Hong Kong. The BlackBerry Storm smartphone features the world’s first “clickable” touch-screen, which dramatically enhances the touch interface and enables easy and precise typing.
The BlackBerry Storm smartphone boasts exceptional performance, a stunning display, 3G (HSPA) network support, desktop-style web pages and advanced multimedia capabilities including a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording, a powerful media player and an expandable memory card slot. The BlackBerry Storm also includes a first class phone, easy access to popular IM and social networking services, built-in GPS and the industry's leading email and messaging capabilities – all designed to give users an incredibly powerful, fast and intuitive mobile experience.
“We are excited to introduce the BlackBerry Storm, the world’s first clickable touch-screen smartphone, in Hong Kong,” said Norm Lo, Vice President of Asia Pacific at RIM. “With its rich set of features, chic design and renowned communications capabilities, the BlackBerry Storm allows customers to make the most of their time with a fashionable and friendly smartphone.”
Awarded the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough award at Mobile World Congress 2009, the innovative SurePress™ touch-screen depresses ever so slightly when the screen is pressed, providing users with a typing and navigation experience they can actually feel. The SurePress touch-screen enables virtual keyboards on the BlackBerry Storm to respond like a physical keyboard and the interface supports single-touch, multi-touch and gestures for intuitive and efficient navigation.
The BlackBerry Storm smartphone brings images and videos to life with sharp and vibrant colour through its stunning 3.25-inch, high resolution (480x360 at 184 ppi) display. Featuring a built-in media player that handles a range of video and music formats, it also supports video streaming and can be synchronised with iTunes®* for music content or wirelessly connected (via Bluetooth®) to a home stereo using the BlackBerry® Music Gateway.
For easy access to popular IM and social networking services, the BlackBerry Storm comes with purpose-built applications for Facebook®, Windows Live™ Messenger, Yahoo!® Messenger, Google Talk™, and Flickr™. The smartphone also conveniently supports multitasking so users are not forced to constantly open and close applications.
With HSPA connectivity, BlackBerry Storm users will enjoy a high-performance HTML browser that works in either portrait or landscape modes thanks to the built-in orientation sensor (accelerometer).
The BlackBerry Storm smartphone is expected to be available in Hong Kong from 1O1O, 3 Hong Kong, China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited, one2free and SmarTone-Vodafone in the second quarter 2009. For more information on pricing and service plans, please contact the respective carriers.
